With the return of the beloved Eurovision Song Contest happening this weekend, we couldn't think of a better, more appropriate way to celebrate the show's 60th birthday than with a cheeky round-up of the good, the bad and the memorable.
If you're a fan of the show, we're pretty sure that you're going to love this blog, and if you're not really interested, well – you'll love it anyway. After all, who doesn't love extra cheese with their serving of terrible music?
This year's contest is being held in Vienna, and the semi-finals are due to kick off on the 19th May 2015 at 21:00 – 23:00 CEST (Central European Summer Time). So, whether you're a die-hard Eurovision'er who throws a party every year, or your plan is nothing more than to settle down in front of the box with a brew – here's our top Eurovision dreams and nightmares to get you in the mood. Enjoy.
Lordi – Hard Rock Hallelujah (2006)
Yep, our first Eurovision highlight goes to the Finnish Band Lordi, and their rock song "Hard Rock Hallelujah". Lordi made Eurovision history with this track and were crowned as the first Finnish winners of the contest.
If you remember this crazy, scary and slightly strange performance, you'll remember that the band were dressed as monsters, and accumulated 292 points, which was a record at that point! Their winning song made it into many European charts and their heir 5th album was released in September 2014, so be sure to check that out...
Alexander Rybak – Fairytale
Of course, this little cutie had to make an appearance in our round-up! The package seemed unbeatable - a talented guy from Norway with Belarussian roots, a fiddle and a catchy pop song – and it worked! Alexander Rybak secured the third Norwegian victory, and the song also became the most successful winner in many years, making Fairytake a truly Eurovision record breaker! Good work, Rybak!
Cezar – It's My Life
We're not too sure what to say about this one, really. It's funny, strange and extremely unexpected - everything a truly epic Eurovision song contest entry should be. Top marks, Cezar!
LT United – We Are The Winners
Surely if you're going to boast about your winning ability, you should probably arm yourself with an awesome song that has more lyrics to it than 'we are the winners'. Sadly, LT United ended up coming 6th, a little way off winning, but it's all about the taking part anyway, right?
And last but no means least, here's the UK's entry for 2015. Enjoy.
